About

Green Door Creations is a boutique custom sewing shop based in Butte, Montana, USA. My strongest talents are taking a client's vision-either from photos, drawings or pure imagination-and creating a unique piece to wear or use for home decor.

Safety and comfort is my number one concern. I am a BLM and LGBTQI+ ally and my pronouns are she/her. I reserve the right to not take projects from clients who wish to engage me on a piece that promotes discriminatory speech or actions. If you are most comfortable with still observing as much social distance as possible, please let me know and I will be happy to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer during consultations and fittings. My process is to first meet with you at a public location and have a conversation about your project. If you are contacting me about alterations on a piece you already own, I will have you meet me in a place where you are comfortable putting on your garment for me to see it in action. Future fittings and delivery will also happen at the place where you are most comfortable.

I have been sewing professionally for over 40 years. It started with making doll clothes, doing repairs on my friends clothes and making some wearable pieces for myself when I was in grade school. College was the first time I worked in a theatre costume shop and I then went on to earn a BFA and an MFA in technical theatre. While in school, I continued to do freelance projects for people needing alterations and custom clothing. In 2015 I switched from focusing on theatre productions to opening my custom sewing studio. I now handle upwards of 100 private clients a year, half of which are wedding related. I have created wedding gowns, dance outfits, party dresses, formal vests and custom dress shirts for men and women. When the opportunity arises, I am delighted to still have opportunities to make costumes for live theatre, ComiCon, conventions and Halloween. In addition to clothing, I also make props and set dressings for theatres. Projects of home decor I have done are memory pillows, flags and curtains. I also have made giant puppets, banners and altar dressings for churches. I can repair some camping gear and am able to clean, oil, repair and set the timing on sewing machines.

I look forward to projects of constructing a special occasion piece from scratch, altering a piece of clothing or home decor to give it new life or putting the finishing touches on a piece that has already been started.  I am also happy to work through a pile of mending that you might have sitting around (for longer than you care to admit?) or to repurpose a piece that you just can't bear to part with yet.
